Interview: Marina Abramovic | Art and design | The Observer.

Sean O’Hagan interviews Marina Abramovic for The Observer.

I love this interview, there are parts which i particularly love where she talks about one of the audience members at her exhibition The Artist is Present (MOMA) where a man stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited:

“It was an enormous amount of liquid he was carrying inside, I’m almost certain he was a performance artist.”

I also love her description between performance art and theatre:

“To be a performance artist, you have to hate theatre, theatre is fake… The knife is not real, the blood is not real, and the emotions are not real. Performance is just the opposite: the knife is real, the blood is real, and the emotions are real.”
